A landmark in Roslyn
Roslyn was founded in 1886 as a coal-mining company town, and its Catholic families were among its earliest settlers. The parish was established in 1887, among the oldest in the Diocese of Yakima, and the church was completed in October 1888. Immaculate Conception Church and Rectory are contributing buildings to the Roslyn Historic District, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
Badly damaged in the 2001 Nisqually earthquake, the church was carefully restored. In 2025, under Fr. Francisco Higuera, the parish completed a major historic restoration, renewing plaster, decorative painting, original artwork, woodwork, and lighting, and reopened the church in time for Christmas, preserving Roslyn's Catholic and immigrant heritage for the next generation.

From the first instant of her conception, the Blessed Virgin Mary was preserved from every stain of original sin by a singular grace of Almighty God and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race. The Immaculate Conception concerns Mary's own beginning, not the virginal conception of Jesus. This privilege came entirely through Christ: Mary was redeemed by her Son in the most perfect way and prepared to become the Mother of God.
On December 8, 1854, after consulting the bishops of the world, Blessed Pope Pius IX solemnly defined this ancient faith as dogma in the apostolic constitution Ineffabilis Deus. Drawing upon the Church's enduring worship and teaching, he declared the Immaculate Conception to be a truth revealed by God and to be firmly believed by all the faithful.
Under this title, Mary is the patroness of our parish. We honor her as the woman “full of grace,” the most excellent fruit of Christ's redemption, and the faithful mother who gave herself wholly to God's saving plan. Her crowned monogram appears on our parish shield. The Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8.
